No electricity bill hike

Ministers and Parliamentarians from the ruling party and the opposition engaged in the debate on budget today as well.

Minister Ravi Karunanayake said that Sri Lankan rupee is weak due to debt taken by the previous governments. He added that but excessive taxes cannot be imposed on the general public. The Minister also said that the current government has taken measures to provide reliefs to the general public by the budget.  He stressed that electricity will not be raised under the present administration.

Opposition Leader MahindRajapakse stated that his government was able to steer the country’s economy successful in between year 2006 and 2014. He also said that they were able to take a range of steps to reduce burden on the people. MP Palitha Range Bandara said that due to the political conspiracy staged on the 26th of October, the country had to be governed without a proper budget. He highlighted that this year’s budget is meant to strengthen the forward match of the country instead of appeasing popular demands.

MP Anura Kumara Dissanayake noted that no budget has been presented in house during last twenty years with a long term development plan.
