President opens the Kandy Kidney patient’s relief centre

The opening of the Kidney Patients Relief Service and Welfare Centre built with grants of the National Kidney Fund was opened in Kandy under the patronage of President Maithripala Sirisena.

The President unveiled the plaque of the Kidney Patients Relief Service and Welfare Centre and vested it in the public. It has been built in affiliation to the Kandy General Hospital. The expenditure was 628 million rupees. This three storeyed Kidney Patients Relief Centre is equipped with a Blood Transfusion Unit and a hostel providing residential facilities to the patients. It also has a clinic for pre identification of kidney patients and facilities for educational information for research, counseling and curative purposes. A group including Minister Rajitha Senaratne joined in the occasion.

The President also opened the new specialized Child Unit and the new birth and Intensive Care Unit of the Peradeniya General Hospital. It has been built with all modern equipment. The President carried out the first registration of this Unit.

Meanwhile, President Maithripala Sirisena joined in an observation visit to the Saliyapura Gajaba Regiment. On arrival at the Regimental Headquarters, the President who is the Commander in Chief was greeted by Army Chief of Staff and Chief of the Gajaba Regiment Major General Shavendra Silva. Thereafter the President joined in making inquiries to residential disabled soldiers and exchanged pleasantries with them. The President also observed the Aquatic Therapy Swimming Pool built at the premises of the Camp on behalf of disabled war heroes.

The President planted a Na sapling to mark his visit. A large gathering of residents of the area had arrived at the camp premises to have a glimpse of the President and submit some of their problems to the President. The President assured the people that he would send the North Central Governor to the area to fulfil the shortcomings of the Saliyapura Hospital and inquire into their issues.

The President also joined as the Chief Invited Guest of the 2019 Sports meet of the Hingurakgoda Rajarata Vidyalaya. On arrival at the school the President received an affectionate welcome from the students. It was also the President who made the official proclamation of the commencement of the sports meet.
