A new program launched to prevent sea erosion

The Coast Conservation Department has launched a program to prevent sea erosion on Wayamba coastal belt.

The program is implemented with the assistance of foreign experts.

This research based program has been launched on the Marawila coastal belt in the Puttalama coastal belt with the participation of a foreign professors.

It aims to provide a scientific solution to the severe annual sea erosion on the coast.

A group of professors from Tokyo University in Japan, London University and a group of Sri Lankans working in those countries are involved with the program.

They aim to examine the sea bed using high tech equipment to gather data.

Many program have been implemented to prevent sea erosion by the coast conservation department at a cost of 6000 million rupees.

Chief engineer of the department R. A. S. Ranawaka said their aim is to provide a solution by getting the recommendations of the observations and views of the fishing community and other stake holders.
