German researchers develop blood test which they say will better detect breast cancer

German researchers from Heidelberg University Hospital said they had developed “the first marketable blood test” to detect breast cancer, calling their finding a “milestone” in diagnosing the disease.

During a presentation in Duesseldorf that while no test existed to determine whether someone was ill or healthy, the “Liquid Biopsy” procedure was non-invasive and could determine whether “there is an indication for an illness” or not.

The blood test, which will be marketed later this year, is not meant to compete with conventional mammography, an ultrasound or an MRT scan. These are “completely different methods” to discover whether a woman was suffering from breast cancer.
