Handing over of eHealth cards to 21 million begins

Health Minister Rajitha Senaratne has said that action has been taken to issue e-Health cards to 21 million persons within six months. The Minister made this reference joining in the national programme for the introduction of the electronic Health cards.

Minister Rajitha Senaratne said that this e-Health card will be given to the 21 million people in Sri Lanka within six months. Five million will be given these cards soon as identity cards had been given to five million. The Minister said that there is no age limit for this e-Health card. One hundred hospitals in the island have already been brought under this programme.

The Health Ministry took the initiative of issuing the e-Health cards with the aim of introducing to the Sri Lankans methods of the modern Medical Science. 200 Hospitals will issue these cards under the first stage. All information and medical records data of a patient are included in this card. The Health Ministry said that there is a possibility of commencing treatment of a patient if in an unconscious state during hospitalization with the help of this card. In the issue of e-Health cards, the Health Ministry will collaborate with the Department for Registration of Persons.

The National programme for the introduction of the e-Health card was held at the Kalutara General Hospital under the patronage of Minister Rajitha Senaratne. The Government of the Netherlands is supporting this programme. A group including State Minister Faizal Cassim joined in the occasion
