“Firefall” phenomenon sweeps over snowy Yosemite cliff

A few lucky visitors to Yosemite National Park’s Horsetail Fall this week were treated to a “firefall” display, a natural phenomenon caused by sunlight shining on a waterfall and making it glow like flowing lava. A timelapse video posted online shows the effect created by a setting sun on Monday . Visitors reported seeing the spectacle from Sunday . According to the National Park Service website, the stunning effect can only be seen in mid to late February, and only on clear evenings when the waterfall is flowing.
