Foreign aid workers prepare aid for civillians fleeing fighting in Baghouz

A group of foreign volunteers based near the last Islamic State stronghold in Syria are providing aid supplies to hundreds of civilians fleeing the area.

The workers have set up a supply point just outside Baghouz, in the country’s eastern Deir al-Zor region, and have been providing displaced civilians with medical care, medication, food, water and blankets.

One of the volunteers, Dave Eubank that the volunteers had encountered around 5,000 people in the previous two weeks – mostly former Islamic State fighters and their families.

He said he was amazed at the mercy shown by the allied Syrian Defence Forces – who are battling Islamic State, pro-government and opposition forces – and that many of those fleeing have been severely injured by IS as they’ve attempted to flee.
