Print your own medicine in the future – university

Scientists at a British university are creating technology they say could one day allow people to print their own pills.

The University of Sussex is developing a hand-held 3D printer which they say will allow patients to print what they are calling “PortaPill” medicines on demand.

The hand-held printer takes 30-60 seconds to begin each printing process.

Maniruzzaman anticipates “PortaPill” medicines could be orally dissolvable, eliminating the need for clean water.

Part of the printed pills research at the university includes the idea of a bio-capsule that can be swallowed and which monitors the body from within.
