Top dog King dines on steak at NYC’s Sardi’s after Westminster win

The wire fox terrier who won “Best in Show” at the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show was feted with a steak lunch at New York’s storied Sardi’s restaurant. Top dog King beat nearly 3,000 barking, tail-wagging competitors, in capturing the most coveted prize at the two-day event at Madison Square Garden. He bested challengers from all 50 U.S. states and 14 countries representing 203 breeds and varieties.

King spent the morning at the Empire State Building before being fed steak from a silver tray at the Manhattan theater-disrict eatery. King, who is seven-years-old, became the 15th wire fox terrier to win the prestigious title with his handler, Gabriel Rangel, of California, scoring his third win for Best in Show.

The Westminster Kennel Club’s show, in its 143rd year, is the second oldest U.S. sporting event, behind only the Kentucky Derby horse race.
