Romania beat Czechs in epic Fed Cup clash

Romania beat the Czech Republic in an epic five match battle in the Fed Cup. The day started well for the Romanians when Simona Halep beat home favourite Karolina Pliskova in Ostrava, Czech Republic, in three sets 6-4, 5-7, 6-4. But Halep’s fellow countrywoman Michaela Buzarnescu was unable to follow up with a win of her own when Katerina Siniakova swept her aside 6-4, 6-2. It left the overall tie poised at 2-2, meaning a final doubles match was needed to decide the overall winner. The Czech duo of Barbora Krejcikova and Katerina Siniakova sent the home crowd into a frenzy with an opening set win in the tie-break. But the Romanian pairing of Monica Niculescu and Irina-Camelia Begu fought back in style, winning the final two sets to end the match 6-7, 6-4, 6-4.
