Italians Gruber and Lanthaler clinch luge World Championships

Italy’s Alex Gruber and Evelin Lanthaler clinched the men’s and women’s respective titles at the Natural Luge World Championship in Latzfons. Austrian Michael Sheikl was a surprise bronze in the men’s event, just behind compatriot Thomas Kammerlander, who finished second. Gruber, a native of South Tyrol, the northern Italian region where the event was being held, grabbed gold with a consistent performance throughout the championship. Lanthaler is another South Tyrolean winning in front of home crowd, beating former champion Greta Pinggera into second, with Austria’s Tina Unterberger in third.
