Agricultural Officials has said that the initiatives taken to control the Senaa caterpillar have been successful. They pointed out that it had been successful in controlling the Senaa caterpillar on many farmlands. The Department of Agriculture has commenced a survey to determine the harm inflicted by the Senaa caterpillar.
The farmer community had informed the agricultural officials that this caterpillar was spreading on around 500 acres of farmlands in the Nochchiyagama area in Anuradhapura. The officials said that further inquiries were being pursued after taking the caterpillar found from the farm.
Meanwhile, a walk to educate the farmer community on minimizing the harm done by the Senaa caterpillar to cultivations was held in the Vavuniya town. It was organized by the Agrarian Services Department and the Vavuniya District Secretariat.
