Sumatran Tiger’s new mate arrives at London Zoo

ZSL London Zoo welcomed a new arrival, when Sumatran tiger ‘Asim’ was relocated to the park as a mate for a resident female tiger, Melati.Asim was flown in from Denmark as part of the European Endangered Species Programme for Sumatran tigers, which aims to save the species from extinction. Head tiger keeper Kathryn Sanders described Asim as “handsome, confident cat who is known for being very affectionate with the ladies in his life”. According to the International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources (IUCN), Sumatran tigers are critically endangered due to habitat loss in the wild, primarily caused by oil palm farming.
