Colour coding system to be introduced for solid food

The Minister of Health Nutrition and Indigenous Medicine Rajitha Senaratne plans to introduce a colour symbol for solid food. It will be effective from the 01st of April.
The color coding system for treating non-infectious diseases will also be used for solid foods. The Ministry of Health points out that the spread of non-communicable diseases among the people has increased due to high sugar, salt and oil usage.
The new order will be effective from 1st April, according to the Food Act No. 26 of 1980.Action will be taken to educate manufacturers of solid foods, semi-solid foods and liquid foods.
A discussion with respect to the colour symbol code for solid food was held with the participation of representatives of the World Health Oranization.
