Election Chief threatens to resign over poll delays

Chairman of the Elections Commission Mahinda Deshapriya has said that he will resign from his post, if the Provincial Council Election is not held before the 10th of November 2019. He made this reference at a media briefing held at the Elections Commission.
The Elections Chief pointed out that he will resign as a mark of protest over the delay. He said, as the Elections Commission he has not made a statement neither has any official of the Commission, pertaining to the next election. Mahinda Deshapriya said if the Presidential Election does not take place between the 9th of November and the 9th of December, and if the Provincial Council Election is not held before the 10th of November, then he will resign as the Chairman of the Elections Commission as a mark of protest.
He said Mahinda Deshapriya as a citizen is also heartbroken by the election delay. Speaking further the Elections Commissioner noted that he is not willing to abide by political agendas
