Germany’s first “Wurst” hotel offers guests the works

Just under 100 euros will buy you a night in “Bratwurst heaven” – a small hotel in northern Bavaria that offers everything from sausage-shaped soap and pillows to sausage-themed wallpaper and even sausage-flavoured ice cream.Butcher Claus Boebel opened the small hotel and its “Wurstaurant” in the town of Rittersbach, about 40 kilometres south of Nuremberg, last autumn, to showcase one of Germany’s best known culinary specialties.Single rooms start at 78 euros a night, while a double room costs 98 euros. They all include breakfast, with a healthy helping of sausage, of course. There are seven rooms for guests, two seminar rooms, and Boebel says bookings are doing well. Before leaving for home, guests can stock up on cold cuts and meats at Boebel’s large shop, or take a cooking course. The hotel’s website offers a huge selection of goods available to those craving sausages and cold cuts from afar.
