National Drugs Eradication School week commences

The National Drugs Eradication School week will commence tomorrow under the patronage of President Maithripala Sirisena at Mulativu, Mulliyawalai Vidyanandan Maha Vidyalaya.

The National Drugs Eradication school week has been declared as a part of eliminating drugs which has become a social menace. The inauguration ceremony will take place at Mulativu, Mulliyawali Vidyanandan Maha Vidyalaya under the patronage of President Maithripala Sirisena. 150 thousand school students in the Northern Province are scheduled to take the Oath of Drug Eradication at the morning student meeting to coincide with the inauguration program. Activities including inviting parents to the school and briefing them in classrooms, explaining legal aspects, educating political authorities, briefing journalists and activities of volunteer organizations will take place. It is expected to implement drug eradication programs through religious places and Dhamma Schools.

The 1984 toll free telephone number to inform drug rackets and on organized crimes, will be officially announced at the function under the patronage of the President. Fuds will be given to renovate 11 schools damaged due to floods in Kilinochchi and Mulativu districts. The President is also scheduled to make a cash donation to get water facilities to 13 schools in the Mulativu District.
