Cash incentives offered for those who provide information on illegal firearms

The Police Department has decided to provide special cash awards to Police Officers who seized illegal firearms and informants. A special operation is now in place to seize illegal firearms. This operation is being carried out for a period of three months from the 01st of January to the 31st of March on the instructions of the Inspector General of Police.
Police officers who take into custody illegal firearms and private informants are to be awarded cash prizes during the period the operation is being carried out. The awards will be made from the Police Prize Fund. The Police Chief has instructed that these payments should be made within two weeks from the date of seizure of the firearms.
If a suspect is arrested with a T 56 weapon a cash reward of 50,000 rupees will be made for the Police Officer concerned. A payment of 20,000 rupees will be made to the private informant. If a firearm is seized without a suspect an award of 10,000 rupees will be made to the Police Officer concerned while the private informant will be given 5,000 rupees. The Police Officer who arrest a suspect with an automatic foreign firearm with no specific mention of the country being made, the cash reward will be 60,000 rupees, while the personal spy will be offered 25,000 rupees. The officer who seizes such a weapon without a suspect will be given 15,000 rupees while the personal spy will be offered 7,500 rupees.
Arrangements have also been made to make cash awards for the seizure of ammunition gun, a pistol, a revolver, a foreign produced non automatic firearms and any locally produced gun.
