Bevin wins Stage 2 of Tour Down Under, takes overall lead

Patrick Bevin of New Zealand avoided a multiple pile-up to win the second stage of the Tour Down Under in Australia and take the overall lead. With around 500 metres left of the 122km stage from Norwood to Angaston, a big crash in the peloton left around 25 riders to contest the sprint finish, with Bevin powering through to take the stage from Caleb Ewan of Australia and Slovakian Peter Sagan. As well as the win being his CCC Team’s maiden stage victory on the World Tour, Bevin took the overall lead by five seconds from Elia Viviani of Italy. Ewan and Max Walscheid of Germany are also five seconds behind.
