PM accuses that some are spreading rumours on the new Constitution

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe has requested all parties to not to spread misinformation on the new constitution raising false alarms to mislead the masses and create panic in the country. The Prime Minister was speaking at the National Thaiponghal Festival organized at Temple Trees.
The National Thaiponghal Festival was held at Temple Trees yesterday under the patronage of Prime Minister Ranil Wickremasinghe. The event was organized by the Ministry of Hindu Religious Affairs. Minister Mano Ganeshan was present on the occasion. Among others who joined in this function was Tamil National Alliance leader R. Sambandan and several other representatives of the Party.
Further addressing the function, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremasinghe underscored that not even a Constitution or a Draft Constitution has yet been presented.
The Prime Minister said that especially at a time when the communities were gathering a massive communal campaign is being carried out in the country that attempts were being made in the country through a new constitution. Premier Wickremasinghe said that they have neither presented a new constitution nor a constitutional draft. The Operations Committee comprises representatives from all parties and they are bound to present all reports received to the Constitutional Assembly and Parliament. He said that their six final reports were presented to Parliament. The Constitutional Assembly and Parliament should decide whether to move forward. Thereafter a draft will be presented which should receive a two thirds majority. This has to be decided by Parliament and the Constitutional Assembly under this political environment.
The Prime Minister said that they have to find a solution to this issue. A political solution is necessary to build reconciliation. A political solution is needed to abolish the executive presidency. They cannot overlook problems. He said that everyone had discussed this matter. There is no draft or a constitution. He called on everyone not to raise communal matters.
