Thousands of people in Australia stung by jellyfish

Thousands of people have been stung by bluebottle jellyfish along Australia’s Gold Coast, forcing the closure of several beaches. Northcliffe, Currumbin and Tugun beaches were closed on Sunday (January 6) according to the Nine Network, with Surf Life Saving Queensland saying 3500 stings were recorded in the state on the weekend.Strong easterly winds are driving the jellyfish toward the coastline at a time when thousands of people are enjoying the beach during school holidays.Bluebottles, also known as Indo-Pacific Portuguese man o’war, produce mild stings, which are best treated with ice or hot water
