President says 2019 should be made a working year devoid of fraud and corruption

President Maithripala Sirisena has said that everyone should join hands to make 2019 an year devoid of fraud and corruption. The President made this call expressing views to the media after paying obeisance to the Sacred Tooth Relics.

The President who arrived at the Sri Dalada Maligawa in Kandy worshipped the Sacred Tooth Relics and engaged in religious observances.

Thereafter the President paid a courtesy call on the Mahanayake of the Malwatte Chapter the Most Ven. Thibbotuwawe Sri Sumangala Thera and made inquiries into his wellbeing and engaged in a cordial discussion. The Mahanayake chanted Seth Pirith and blessed the President on behalf of the New Year that dawns tomorrow.

As the Mahanayake of the Asgiriya Chapter is out of the country the President who visited the Asgiriya Gedige Raja Maha Vihare had a brief conversation after calling on the Asgiriya Anunayake the Ven. Venduruwe Uapali Anunayake Thera. The prelate chanted Seth Pirith and expressed his blessings on the President for the New Year. The President observed the newly constructed Dana Sala at the Asgiriya Gedige Vihare and the construction work of the Archaeology Centre.

The President said that it is main question as to how the people of the country are honest in building the country when considering the developing countries in the world. When considering the political sphere, various dialogues and debates are taking place. But he said that due consideration should be given as to how many are honest.
The President also took action to look into the wellbeing of the Mahanayake of the Ramanna Sect the Ven. Napaana Pemasiri Thera who is receiving treatment at the Kandy General Hospital.

Central Province Chief Minister Sarath Ekanayake and former Minister S.B. Dissanayake joined the President in this occasion.
