Relief activities for the North are continuing

Relief activities are continuing although the disaster situation in the North is gradually decreasing. The Three Armed Forces are continuing to provide their assistance to the relief work. Meanwhile nearly 8,000 people are still staying at secured locations. Kilinochchi area is affected more by the floods in the North with the inclement weather. A large number of people have been moved into secured locations due to the submerging of many areas.

The Government provide them with food and other facilities. Aid to the value of 20 million rupees was given to the Northern people affected by floods under the patronage of Minister Rajitha Senaratne. Meanwhile steps have been taken to maintain health services at the camps for the displaced. 2,000 affected families in the north were given dry rations and other goods under the patronage of Northern Province Governor Reginald Cooray. Sabaragamuwa Province Governor Niluka Ekanayaka was present on the occasion. Meanwhile 5.873 people who were staying at relief camps have gone back to their homes. Sri Lanka Army helped them to clean their houses and wells. The Navy is implementing a program to provide clean water to the people. Many wells in the area have been cleaned enabling those to be used to get drinking water.
