Development of Asirigama Village in Anuradhapura under Shakthi begins

Development activities in the Asirigama Village in Anuradhapura under the Grama Shakthi People’s programme launched by the President to alleviate poverty has commenced.
The allocation made on the orders of President Maithripala Sirisena for the development of the Asirigama Village at Palugaswewa in Anuradhapura is 25 million rupees. The Grama Shakthi programme is in operation with the desire of alleviating poverty from the country by the year 2025. The President recently undertook a special tour of the Asirigama Grama Shakthi Village. During this tour the President received requests from the villagers with respect to new houses, water facilities for the agriculture industry as well as with respect to preschool buildings. Accordingly the President allocated a sum of 25 million rupees. The Presidential Media Division said that many development activities including the laying of foundation stones for the construction of new buildings for two dilapidated preschools took place yesterday. The residents expressed their gratitude to the President for responding to their requests before the lapse of two weeks.
The Grama Shakthi People’s programme is in operation countrywide. It receives the support of the Private Sector. One of the aims of this effort is to guide the people to stand on their own feet.
The President has given instructions to the relevant officials to increase the number of villages that will be covered by the progrmme by the year 2020 is 4000.
