Wins for Perathoner and Samkova in Cervinia snowboard cross

Emmanuel Perathoner of Italy won the FIS snowboard cross race in Cervinia to claim his first career world cup victory.Perathoner was last after the start section of the winding Cervinia course, but slowly closed the gap while his competitors jockeyed for position ahead of him. By the middle of the run, the Italian had made his way through the pack taking the inside pass and moved into the lead. The 32-year-old held on to secure the win to the delight of his home crowd.Junior world champion Jake Vedder of the United States finished in second place. Germany’s Marin Noerl, who won Friday’s season opener, was third and leads the snowboard cross overall standings.Eva Samkova of Czech Republic edged ahead of American Lindsey Jacobellis to win the women’s competition. Jacobellis, who won on Friday, opened up a big gap between herself and the pack. But towards the end, the Sochi 2014 Olympic gold medallist Samkova made her way through the field to beat Jacobellis by a board length and claim her 11th career world cup victory.
