Prehistoric marine reptile finds new home in Argentine museum

The reconstruction of a large, prehistoric marine reptile went on display at the Bernardino Rivadavia Natural Sciences Argentine Museum (MACN) in Buenos Aires. Scientists say the animal, known as a plesiosaur, lived in warm, prehistoric seas some 65 million years ago at the end of the Mesozoic era just before the extinction of the dinosaurs. The example on display at the museum was reconstructed from fossils discovered in Argentina’s Patagonia region near El Calafate in the Santa Cruz province.
