Mexico’s Popocatepetl volcano lights up night, meteor seen near Acapulco

Mexico’s Popocatepetl volcano erupted twice late night giving off spectacular flashes of light followed by dazzling incandescent material spilling out of the crater and down the mountain side. The first eruption occurred at 10:44 p.m. before shooting off another blast at 11:22 p.m.

The eruptions sent large columns of ash and smoke up to 2 kilometers into the air with ash raining down on surrounding areas. The alluring display overshadowed a manmade light show from an event in the neighbouring city of San Nicolas de los Ranchos which can be seen in the video captured by mounted webcam.Another camera caught a meteor cutting across the sky over Acapulco Bay on Saturday morning at 5:16 a.m.
