The overall water capacity of the Moragahakanda Reservoir is 460 thousand acre feet. It is equal to four times that of the Parakrama Samudra.

82,000 acres of paddy lands are due to be cultivated. It will supply water to around 2000 small and large tanks covering the North Central, Northwestern and Eastern Provinces.
