Investigations into the murder of PCs in progress

A team of Police Officers including the Inspector General of Police has left for Batticaloa to carry out investigations into the murder of two Police Officers in Vavunativu. The Office of the Police Media Spokesman said that the team included Senior DIG of the Criminal Investigations Department, the Police Media Spokesman and several Intelligence sleuths.

Comprehensive Police investigations have been launched into the killing of two Police Constables who were on duty at the Vavunathivu road block. The two Police Constables were found dead with gunshot injuries at the Police roadblock this morning.

Niroshan Indika Prasanna, the Police Officer who was murdered was a resident of the Udugama area in Galle. He was 35 years. The Police said that the other officer killed was 28 year old Ganesh Dinesh, a resident of Kalmunai. Inquiries are in progress into the incident under the supervision of the Police Superintendent in charge of the BAtticaloa Division and on the orders of the Inspector General of Police.

In the meantime the magisterial inquiry into the death of these two Police Officers was held today.

The Batticaloa Magistrate and the Judicial Medical Officer examined the scene of the incident. Accordingly the bodies were taken to the Batticaloa Hospital for the conduct of the autopsies.
