Wheel-folding electric vehicle could help with parking squeeze

An Israeli start-up is developing a mini electric car for city driving that, at the press of a button, folds its wheels to weave through traffic and squeeze into parking spots.

The company, City Transformer, hopes to have a small number of its vehicles ready in about a year for a pilot on the streets of Tel Aviv.

City Transformer has built an early-stage prototype, with room for a driver and a passenger in back and limited manoeuvrability.

The finished product, Formoza said, will be street-legal, have a range of up to 180 km per charge and maximum speed of 90 km/hour when its wheels are extended.

It will be able to seamlessly retract its wheels while driving to become almost as narrow as a motorcycle.
