Compensation for paddy cultivations destroyed by the mite hazard

Minister Mahinda Amaraweera has given instructions to the Department of Agriculture to grant compensation on behalf of paddy cultivations that were destroyed by the mite hazard.
Many paddy lands in the Ampara and Polonnaruwa Districts suffered massive losses in the Yala season as a result of the mite hazard. 42,830 aces of paddy land are estimated to have been damaged in the Polonnaruwa District alone. Of this, 38,570 acres had suffered partial damages.
In the meantime 4269 paddy cultivations have been totally destroyed due to the mite hazard. Minister Mahinda Amaraweera have given instructions to officials of the Department of Agriculture to take initiatives to pay immediate compensation due to the damages caused to these cultivations.
Meanwhile, an estimate is now being undertaken to the damages inflicted to cultivations as a result of the recent extreme weather conditions.
