Captured carbon dioxide turned into fish feed

What if greenhouse gases could be harnessed to power a more environmentally friendly way of farming fish? Norwegian start-up CO2Bio is aiming to do just that and has launched a series of experiments at a futuristic greenhouse attached to the country’s largest oil refinery in the town of Mongstad.

In the two years since they began, experiments by researchers from the University of Bergen and its sister organisation Uni Research are showing that carbon dioxide released by the refinery can be used to feed algae that can then be harvested as a source of fish feed. Norway’s aquaculture industry goes to great lengths to secure feed for farmed salmon.
