Appointment of Premier complies with 19th amendment

Co-media Spokesman of the government, Minister Mahinda Samarasinghe says removal of the previous Prime Minister and appointment of the new Premier was done in accordance with the 19th amendment brought to the constitution.

Minister Samarasinghe made the comment at the weekly cabinet meeting held at the Government Information Department. He said that the quarters who challenge majority power of the government in House should clearly prove no confidence to sustain their argument. He highlighted that there is a methodology to follow to prove a no-confidence motion.
The Minister further noted that when no confidence motion is mooted, vote among the MPs will be called in the Parliament. Hence, the due methodology should be adopted. The Minister challenged the UNP to bring their no-confidence motion in accordance with the procedure to test their opinion.
Co-media spokesman of the cabinet, Parliamentarian Keheliya Rambukwella said that if there is a conflict witness between the constitutional council and the executive power, it needs to be evaluated according to the stipulated practices. He stressed that it is not the belief of a certain group is the law of the country. Keheliya Rambukwella noted that the President and the current government will protect all the public servants and no such individual should be intimidated.
