The 2019 edition of the Tour de France will mark 100 years of the famous and presitigious Yellow Jersey, organisers said at the unveiling of a route which promises a lot of mountains. With some 30 categorised climbs and five moutain finishes, the race which will start from Brussels will also feature less time trialling. The 2019 edition will mark the 50th anniversary of Belgian Eddy Merckx’s first win and the 100th anniversary of the introduction of the fabled yellow jersey, first worn by Eugene Christophe in 1919. It was introduced six years after the first Tour de France, so as to distinguish the most performing rider from the pack.
