Government’s stand is to expedite the implementation of the MOU between India and Sri Lanka

Minister Mahinda Samarasinghe has said that the Government’s stand is to expedite the implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding between India and Sri Lanka.
The Minister made this reference addressing a media briefing held at the Sri Lanka Freedom Party Head Office in Colombo today. The Minister pointed out that a number of projects come under the purview of the Agreement.
The Minister said that the Indian IOC Company and the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation will be handling it as a joint venture. He said that they are already witnessing that World Shipping Companies have started getting together as one company and doing transactions. They have started building large vessels and using them for transport. Only the CIC terminal can e used when large vessels arrive in Colombo as 17 metres are required. Its only the CIC Terminal that has 17 metres. The Minister said that some vessels have started returning due to congestion at this terminal.
He pointed out that it is based on this matter the the country is going to handle the Eastern Terminal and to hand over the Western Terminal under the MOU. He added that Japan is willing to assist in this process along with India.
