Houses built from wood and cans on an eroded mountain in Barrancabermeja, a city in the department of Santander, were devoured by the avalanche of land during the slide. Relief agencies have been working around the clock since the disaster struck to try to find for survivors under the rubble. Out of the 15 missing people, three minors have been rescued and the authorities have ordered all of the residents to evacuate the area.
