Expeditious solution to garbage problem in Colombo

State Minister Ajith P Perera says an expeditious solution will be given to the garbage problem in Colombo.

The State Minister made the comment at the inspection tour in Muthurajawela to inquire about the waste management system in the site.  The waste management project at Muthurajawela which commenced in year 2017, is able to burn around 700 metric tons of solid waste a day.

The authorities aim to generate ten megawatts of electricity using the facility. Mayor of the CMC, Rosy Senanayake was also part of the inspection tour. Ajith P Perera stressed that following the completion of the Muthurajawela waste management system, the Colombo garbage problem can be addressed successfully. Ajith P Perera also highlighted that the electricity generation process will be initiated by November next year. Colombo Mayor, Rosy Senanayake pointed out that they expect to hand over waste of the Municipal Council area to the facility soon. She pointed out that the project helps to make Colombo clean and contains the spread of diseases and other health issues.
