Brazilian surfer de Souza suffers knee injury in WSL event

Brazilian surfer Adriano de Souza withdrew from the penultimate event of the men’s World Surf League Championship Tour after suffering a knee injury. The 2015 WSL Champion landed hard in shallow water heading out before his heat.He was carried from the water and received treatment before returning to the water against Frenchman Joan Duru. The pain became too much and de Sousa pulled out of his run, and was again carried from the water by officials.Local hope Frederico Morais kept his home bid alive, beating Brazilian rookie Yago Dora in the last heat of the day.Hawaii’s Ezekiel Lau walked away with the day’s highest combined heat total of 7.33 leading score (out of a possible 10) with two powerful forehand snaps on a set wave.
