Argentina wins gold in men’s dunk competition, France wins women’s shoot-out

Argentina’s Fausto Ruesga took gold in the men’s dunk competition at the Summer Youth Olympics Games in Buenos Aires, as France’s Mathilde Peyregne won the women’s shoot-out. The dunk event saw competitors attempt challenging and entertaining slam-dunks for the judges. With scores tied, the gold and silver medals were decided with an extra round which gave Ruesga the title ahead of Russia’s Nikita Remizov. Niccolo Filoni of Italy earlier took bronze.Ruesga, to the delight of the home crowd in downtown Buenos Aires, showed his creativity in dunking over a boy lying on a stretcher. He had pulled him out of the audience.He also performed his last two dunks wearing an Argentine flag around his neck. In the women’s shoot-out competition, France’s Mathilde Peyregne triumphed.The event saw athletes take five attempts to shoot baskets from four locations on the court.
