Rea races to ninth straight Superbikes win to tie record

Jonathan Rea raced to his ninth straight Superbikes victory in the Argentina opener to tie the series record for consecutive wins. The 31-year-old Kawasaki Racing rider started from second on the grid but powered past polesitter Marco Melandri on the opening lap and was never threatened, winning by a margin just over nine seconds.Aruba.it Ducati rider Melandri settled for second place with Rea’s Kawasaki teammate Toprak Razgatlioglu claiming the final step on the podium after overtaking Eugene Laverty on lap 14 and narrowly holding on. Northern Irishman Rea has already clinched this year’s Superbike World Championship and will look to set a new record with his tenth straight win in the second Argentina race.
