50,000 mango plants distributed among families in Tanthrimale

A programme for the distribution of mango plants under the programme of establishing 5,500 Dhana Abhimani export villages has been held under the patronage of Minister Daya Gamage.

The programme was held at the Anuradhapura historic  Tanthrimale Raja Maha Vihare. 50,000 mango saplings of the CJP variety were distributed among families within the Tanthrimale Divisional Secretariat. Minister P. Harrison and Parliamentarian Chandima Gamage were among those present on the occasion.

Expressing his views at the event, Minister Daya Gamage said that their target is that at least 10,000 plants should be planted to become an export village. 60 kilogrammes of mangoes can be plucked from one tree and obtain an income of 12,000 rupees. The country will get a twofold income.

The Minister said that Mahinda Rajapaksa had taken loans at a stretch and an interest had to be paid for these loans. When the present Government assumed office it was able to pay only the interest. But now the Government is able to repay the instalments by increasing its revenue.
