China’s newly developed underwater glider passes joint test

Two sets of China’s independently developed underwater glider SeaWing 1000 have passed a month-long joint test on undersea probe and communication in South China Sea waters, laying ground for a new move-fix mode for real-time data collection.

The mission also enhanced the underwater glider’s probing ability while proving its reliability and stability. SeaWing 1000 was invented by scientists from the Shenyang Institute of Automation under Chinese Academy of Sciences, designed to use net buoyancy and angle adjustment for propulsive force.

The underwater glider is also capable of making long-haul voyage with low energy consumption.
