PM expresses gratitude to former Maldives President for holding a free and fair election

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremasinghe has expressed his gratitude to former President of the Maldives Abdullah Yameen for holding a free and fair election. Talking to him over the phone, the Prime Minister said that Sri Lanka is always ready to cordially welcome him at any time.

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremasinghe also contacted the winner of the Maldivian election Ibrahim Mohammed Soli and extended his greetings over his victory.

Mohamed Nasheed a former President of the Maldives arrived in Temple Trees yesterday and met Prime Minister Ranil Wickremasinghe. They discussed the political situation in the Maldives and political developments in the region. The Prime Minister lauded the investments made by Sri Lankans in the Maldives. Mr. Nasheed said he expected Sri Lanka’s support on behalf of economic development in the Maldives.

An invitation was extended to the Sri Lankan Prime Minister to attend the swearing in of the new President of the Maldives.
