Neomal Rangajeewa granted bail

The Appeals Court ordered the release on bail of the Police Narcotics Bureau Inspector Neomal Rangajeewa who was in remand custody over the murder of inmates of the Welikada Prison. It was in the year 2012 that 27 prisoners of the Welikada Prisons were shot and killed.

Police Inspector Neomal Rangajeewa who was arrested with respect to the incident had filed a revised petition appealing for bail. Considering this petition the Appeals Court released him on a surety bail of 200 thousand rupees. However, the suspect was banned from foreign travel.

A revised petition filed by the suspect earlier in the Colombo High Court was dismissed. The second suspect in the case former Prisons Superintendent Emil Ranjan Lamahewa was further remanded.
