Salaries of doctors and nurses not reportingto their new places of service will be suspended

The Health Ministry has decided to suspend the salaries of doctors and nurses who do not report to their new places of service at securing transfers.

Minister of Health Rajitha Senaratne has instructed Health Secretary B.G.S. Gunatilake to suspend the salaries of doctors and nurses who are not reporting to their new service places after being transferred. Disciplinary action is also to be instituted against Hospital Directors who are not releasing doctors and nurses who had received transfers.

In addition to the suspension of financial provisions given to these hospitals, attention will also be drawn to this matter in granting promotions to the Hospital Director.

The Health Ministry took action to effect transfers with the intention of overcoming the shortage of doctors and nurses in Provincial Hospitals. But Provincial Health officials pointed out that many issues had surfaced as a result of the staff not reporting to their new places of service.
