CB says depreciation of rupee has not collapsed the economy

Senior Deputy Governor of the Central Bank Dr. Nandalal Weerasinghe says that the depreciation of the local rupee cannot be considered as a collapse of the economy. He said that it has occurred due to a change in the world economy. Senior Deputy Governor of the Central Bank Dr. Nandala Weerasinghe said the main reason for this is the strengthening of the US Dollar. This has affected the currencies of developing countries. The Indian rupee has been depreciated by 11 percent, Indonesia rupee by 9 percent and the Australian dollar by 7 percent.
