Animals treated with mooncakes ahead of Mid-Autumn Festival in Yunnan zoo

Animals enjoyed specially prepared mooncakes ahead of the Mid-Autumn Festival at a zoo in Kunming City, capital of southwest China’s Yunnan Province, on Friday. Zookeepers prepared the holiday treat in a variety of flavors with ingredients including carrots, grass, and fruit – corn flavor for giant pandas, worm flavor for meerkats, grass flavor for rhinos.

Visitors were much amused by Mao Zhu and Zhen Duo, two male pandas who are also the star attractions at the zoo, when they fought with each other, eager to sample the cakes specially made for them. Other animals also got their special snacks for the holiday.

The Mid-Autumn Festival is traditionally celebrated every year on the 15th day of the eighth month of the lunar calendar. It falls on Monday, Sept. 24 this year.
