Parisians irked as city streets close off to traffic for “Car-less Day”

Paris closed off its bustling streets to cars for the French capital’s annual “Car-less Day” in an effort to combat pollution in the city. Only pedestrians and those on environmentally friendly modes of transport like bicycles could circulate in the city’s roads, including the heavily touristic Champs Elysees. Now in its fourth year, “Car-less Day” aims to reduce pollution in the city and make streets “more pleasant” and “more peaceful.” Still, some Parisian motorists said the initiative caused hassles on their daily lives, posing problems of mobility and parking difficulties. Pollution, notably air pollution, has been a recurring conundrum in crowded Paris.
