WRC leader Neuville in front after day one of Rally of Turkey

World Rally Championship leader Thierry Neuville leads reigning champion Sebastien Ogier by just three tenths of a second after a hard-fought day-one battle on Friday (September 14) in Marmaris at the Rally of Turkey. Hyundai Shell Mobis’ Neuville, who heads the overall standings by 23 points from Frenchman Ogier (M-Sport Ford), nudged in front of his rival with Andreas Mikkelsen only 2.6 seconds back in third. Neuville’s team-mate Mikkelsen got the better of Craig Breen on Friday’s early session with cars complaining about the short three minute gap between rides which caused visibility issues.

Norway’s Mikkelsen led by 6.3 seconds after the morning, but it’s now the front two in the overall standings that lead the way heading into Saturday, with Neuville recovering from fourth in the morning session. The Rally of Turkey hasn’t featured on the calendar since 2010 and is the tenth instalment of the 2018 season.
