Indictments served on seven including Gotabhaya; Foreign travel ban imposed

Seven persons including former Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa have been released on bail. The High Court Trial at Bar enlarged them on bail today. This is the second case taken up for hearing by this Special High Court. The Special High Court Judges imposed a foreign travel ban on all these seven defendants.

All these suspects including Gotabhaya Rajapaksa are accused of misappropriating a sum of 33.9 million rupees in State funds in the construction of the D.A. Rajapaksa Memorial Museum.

The seven accused were indicted by the Attorney General at the High Court Trial-at-Bar under the Public Property Act and the Penal Code on charges of abusing public property.

The other defendants of this case are Harshan de Silva, Keminda Attygalle, Abraham Galappatti, Badra Udulawathie, Mahinda Sagala and Mallika Kumari Senadheera. Each of them were enlarged on a cash bail of 100 thousand rupees and two sureties of one million rupees each.

They have been indicted under the charges of breaching criminal trust, conspiracy or aiding and abetting.

The documents related to the indictments including 105 case goods and an audit report have been included. 80 witnesses have been cited. The case is due to be taken up again on the 09th of next month
